1. Ask for more

If your position already allows you to grow as a professional and contains enough challenges, then you don’t need to do more. However, if you think you can do better, then educate yourself on what you need to move forward and present a plan to your boss. At the very least, you will show him that you are serious in your ambitions and your commitment.

2. Do not limit yourself to your salary

Don’t just focus on your salary, and even if it isn’t enough, find non-financial benefits that make your job interesting. Also, try to thrive outside of work, which might be difficult if money is all on your mind. Keep in mind that in a lucrative environment like engineering, it’s usually the salary that comes after a good job, not the other way around.

3. Learn as much as possible

Take every opportunity to learn something new, to acquire knowledge and skills that will allow you to be more effective. Sure, you might lose precious hours that you could have spent in working time, but you have a lot to gain in the long run!

4. Go towards your passion

If you are stuck at work and have exhausted all means to improve your situation, then try something new. Go in another direction. Maybe changing your schedule or taking a part-time job in your spare time will open your horizons. Finally, we always perform better in a job where we are happy, and we are happy in a job that fascinates us.

5. Learn to say “no”

Many professionals are afraid to say no for fear of gaining a bad reputation with their boss or coworkers. However, you shouldn’t be afraid to say “no” if those around the office cross the line. It’s okay to put in extra effort at work once in a while, but no one should have to bleed themselves dry for a job. When you impose your refusal, you may be unaware that you are somehow constructing your own working conditions.
